eBay sets to inspire another group of young women at the University of Surrey

On the 24th of November, 2011 eBay and PayPal played host to another fabulous Modern Muse event at the University of Surrey.

35 girls were left feeling inspired and motivated to become the best they can be in their professional careers. Maxine Benson MBE, co-founder of everywoman was on hand to introduce two fabulous speakers from eBay. The speakers on the day were Carrie Bienkowski, Head of Buyer Experience EU Fashion at eBay and Patricia Bennett, Director of Product and Technology at gumtree.com.

Speaking in front of a group of 35 girls, Patricia and Carrie spoke about their careers, starting from breaking into the professional world upon leaving University to taking the next steps and pushing through the inevitable glass ceiling. They were on hand to answer any questions the audience had, and left the young women in the room with positivity and a 'can-do' attitude. Girls were told to “push boundaries and let people know how good you are – the glass ceiling is there if you perceive it to be, but if you don’t – you can push straight past it”.

After hearing from two outstanding women in their professions, everyone in the room left knowing they can take on any challenges they so wish in their professional careers. Another powerful event held by eBay which proved to show what a positive force Modern Muse is becoming to the younger generation of today.
